SUPPLEMENTS
Supplements are great.
They make getting certain macros or nutrients a lot easier.
What they shouldn't be though is a cornerstone of our diet. They're there to supplement a well thought out, balanced and nutritious diet.
With that being said there are some that are super useful, and there are others that are just a waste of money. The video below should explain which ones are useful and which ones are wasteful.
Supplements
Remember the foundations of our nutrition? Supplements are there to aid us with the foundations, and to aid us when we're struggling with a certain part of our diet. They should be used as a way to boost the good work we've already done. NOT to stick a plaster over a gunshot wound.
Here's a personal example: In my early days of training, I'm talking age 16-17, I used to think that it was ok to hit the gym, do a load of benching and bicep curls, followed immediately by a protein shake. But then would eat a terrible diet the rest of the time. No doubt the protein would help build muscle and with recovery etc. BUT the biggest difference to progress is the foundation of the diet.
Supplements are useful, however, they are there to SUPPLEMENT your existing diet, not fix it.
Consistency is king
Think rocks, pebbles and grains of sand.
Your calories are the rocks, the big important bits that take up the majority of the room.
The macros are the pebbles, they're a lot smaller than the rocks, they're still there, and are important but in terms of developing habits, are a lot smaller in comparison to the rocks.
The grains of sand of sand, again are still important, with supplements, we're heading into the grains of sand territory, which probably gives you an idea of how important they are in comparison to calories and macros. They can be useful, but focussing on the more important rocks and pebbles will have a much more profound effect.
