All 'diets' have one thing in common, they aim to create an outcome by sticking to a principle.


And by principles I'm talking about calorie deficits, eating slightly less than our body needs to lose weight, calorie surplus', eating slightly more than our body needs to maximise the potential to build muscle, and calorie maintenance, where our intake and output of food means our weight stays the same.


If we use slimming world as an example, they use a points system as a way to create better eating habits, but the main goal is weight loss. The principle here is a calorie deficit, the method is the slimming world points system.


Not to bash slimming world or anything like that, it works for many people as a method to stick to for weight loss.


But by getting a handle on the basics of nutrition can give you a refreshing outlook on food and nutrition.


Rather than getting confused, the basics have remained the basics for over 100 years (seriously, there is research going back over 100 years to back the energy balance theory)


And by getting to grips with these basics, it means that you never have to learn any other systems ever again.


It also helps spot a bullshit product/diet/shake etc from a mile away! Knowing these principles, and the methods that can go along with them means you're always armed with knowledge to see through the fad diets and products!
